Iris Perfumes

Powder, suede and silver

Iris, sometimes called orris, comes from the dried root of the iris plant and ranks among the most precious materials in perfumery, partly because it takes years of curing before it can be used. The character is powdery, earthy, and cool, often described as the smell of suede or cold stone rather than anything floral.

BDK Parfums' Gris Charnel and its Extrait edition both lean into a powdery, iris-adjacent character against smoky woods. Sospiro's Vibrato and Erba Pura Magica use iris for lift and elegance rather than sweetness.
