The Story

Imaginary Authors scents each fragrance as a book that does not exist, and this one is named for the title tale of an imagined collection of alpine fairy tales. Rescued from obscurity by students who tracked the reclusive author, Chunhua Luli, to a remote cabin in the Austrian Alps, the collection marks her return forty years after her debut. Its main characters are wild animals whose tender lessons cut to the heart of the human condition. In the title story, a young fox becomes obsessed with a butterfly, only to learn the hazards of infatuation. Other themes include unflagging ambition, the impact of beautiful objects, the pursuit of serenity and the power of positive thinking. Created in 2021 by perfumer Josh Meyer, who spent years on the jasmine, tulip, incense and pepper idea, it is meant to feel optimistic, playful and very wearable.

Opening
