Saddle leather, smoke and a fiery horse's spirit. Corpus Equus by Naomi Goodsir is a daring, animalic composition by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, capturing the raw intensity of leather, skin and instinct. Inspired by the spirit of the horse, powerful, untamed and elegant, it pushes beyond traditional leather into something more primal and expressive. Not designed to please everyone, it is a statement for collectors and connoisseurs.
The Story
Corpus Equus is a tribute to the founder's favorite horse, a thoroughbred she trained and competed with in show jumping, summed up by the house as a tribute to a fiery and impetuous horse. The brand's notes read like an equestrian journey: collecting the saddle, brushing the horse, a gallop over dry grass and a timber-clad country home at the end. Dark resins, smoky woods and a striking animalic accord make a scent that feels alive, textured, bold and deeply sensual.
How It Smells
Opening
A raw, animalic leather blast: earthy, slightly dirty and incredibly realistic, evoking worn saddles, warm skin and the atmosphere of a stable, elevated into something artistic. It opens smoky and mineral-dry, with black rose petal and horsehair.
Heart
Smoke, resin and subtle spice build, adding warmth and depth while keeping a rugged edge, with cigarette ash and birch. There is a tactile quality, almost as if you could feel the texture of the leather. Rose appears later, giving a calmer, powdery softness.
Dry Down
It settles into dark amber, labdanum-like resins and softened leather with Tonkin musk and incense, an intimate trail that remains bold but more refined on skin.
